Latin America post COVID
Causes and socio-ecological consequences of the pandemic

When we talk about future ways to network and travel, we are referring to the challenges of complexity. When we think about emissions and biodiversity loss, we are confronted with irreversibility. When we long to get back together and celebrate together, we face uncertainty. Complexity, irreversibility, and uncertainty are three determining concepts in decision-making processes. They are present in the economy, politics, and on the personal level.

The challenge is to reflect on these concepts that are not accidents or failures but, on the contrary, a constitutive part of the context in which we live and must make decisions.

The pandemic demonstrated the urgency of improving the exchange between political decision-making processes and science. Evidence-based politics seems to be the great challenge of the moment. The administration of the health crisis and the subsequent social crisis will require a complex look that understands and incorporates the inputs of science.

Our proposal is to work on a publication with reflections from different disciplines organized around these concepts. Access to the publication is free.
We present as a first advance the works from Brazil. Contributions are planned from Uruguay, Peru, and Mexico. We are open to proposals for the analysis of cases from other countries.
