Art-Science Interaction

OBJECTIVE

Knowledge integration with particular emphasis on the amalgamation of science, arts and humanities to analyse and solve complex issues.

ABSTRACT

From its beginnings, SARAS Institute has worked towards enhancing the integration between different knowledge and disciplinary fields. The reconcilement between the sciences, the arts and the humanities, as a strategy to analyse, understand and find solutions to complex problems has proven to be a more efficient alternative when trying to advance the comprehension of such problems where nature and society are conceived as a whole -the so-called socio-ecological system.
The art-science link represents, in this sense, a tool and a key element that may potentially accelerate societal changes that will help us to build sustainable futures.

Our interest is in transformation, creative questioning and holistic explanations/approaches.

KEY CONCEPTS
  • Science and art are the two central expressions of human creativity. As that, they could bring mutual contributions to the creation process.

  • Art is a strong way to impact society with a different language that reaches people with very different educations and backgrounds (popular appeal and contact).

  • Art takes synthetic and wholistic approaches – inherently understands the complexity and interconnection of system variables.

  • Art is often concerned with transformations
