Postgraduate Course on “Socio Ecological Systems” was offered for the first time at the SARAS Institute Headquarters.
The course, “Socio-Ecological Systems: Structure, Dynamics and Management,” (offered in 2015 at the School of Sciences and the School of Engineering) was offered during the second semester of 2016 at the SARAS Institute Headquarters.
The objectives of this course were to cover key aspects of the structure and dynamics of socio-ecological systems, to analyze key aspects that ensure sustainability of ecosystem services essential for life on this planet and quality of life for humans, to understand the main paradigms of management, its evolution and history, and to include multidimensionality and uncertainty in the analysis of decision making processes.
The course targeted university graduates or advanced students interested in environmental issues. It counted on the participation of experts, researchers, advanced university students, and students from the UTU, the Uruguayan technical school. The course was taught by Nestor Mazzeo.
