EDUCATION
SARAS Institute focuses on integrating perspectives and systemic inter- and multi-disciplinary approaches, while exploring dialogue and complementarity between art and science. In particular, the educational strategy has focused on developing postgraduate programmes in less established areas such as:
Complex systems dynamics and early signals of change.
Governance, complexity and resilience of socio-ecological systems.
Ecological Economics.
Adaptability, transformation and innovation in socio-ecological systems.
While at first SARAS Institute envisioned the organization of a PhD programme in conjunction with the University of Wageningen, it then opted for a strategy aimed at strengthening synergies and securing ties of cooperation and exchange with postgraduate programmes with an established regional trajectory. SARAS’ postgraduate courses are also designed to reach other audiences such as decision and policy makers who demand knowledge and empirical evidence, as well as a forum for dialogue and exchange with the academic community about problems and potential solutions that require systemic approaches and the meeting of science and policies.
Teaching and training activities are crucial for SARAS. We aim at contributing to the academia but also to the organizations with management and decision-making responsibilities. We therefore promote the exchange and integration of participants from these diverse sectors in several of our education activities, and expect to expand them further in the future.
