The institute is an initiative of the Universidad de la Republica of Uruguay. It is supported and will receive basic funding from the federal government of Uruguay. It will be a regional center cooperating closely with scientific communities and related funding agencies in Argentina, Brazil and Chile, and seeking structural cooperation with a established set of international key scientists.
Contacts have been established with sister-institutes such as the Santa Fe Institute, NCEAS, the Resilience Alliance and Para Limes.
We seek to establish formal links to a small set of key Universities for cooperation.
At the moment cooperations are being developed with Wageningen University, the University of Wisconsin, and Stockholm University.
