SARAS participates and collaborates in organizing national participatory workshops on climate change

Uruguay is in the process of preparing its National Plan for Climate Change Adaptation for the Agricultural Sector (PNA - Agro), which was established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as a tool to promote the integration of adaptation policies into national strategies and budgets. The ultimate goal of the PNA -Agro is to reduce vulnerability to the impacts of climate change by building adaptive capacity and resilience. The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries expects to complete the PNA-Agro formulation stage in 2018.

The Office of Agricultural Policy and Programming is conducting a number of workshops called "Adaptation Dialogues" where producers, technicians and other stakeholders are invited to exchange opinions on the impacts of climate events in the productive sectors, and to propose strategies to adapt to variability and climate change. The dialogues are aimed at gathering opinions to design the PNA-Agro and public policies for the agricultural sector that will contribute with production systems that are better adapted to climate variability.

In order to gather feedback for constructing indicators that will facilitate studying the vulnerability and resilience of the country's productive sectors, the SARAS Institute participates and collaborates in organizing and monitoring the workshops that are essential for complying with the project's objectives: analyzing the vulnerability, resilience and climate change adaptation of the Uruguayan productive sectors

Until now dialogues have been conducted for dairy, family agriculture, forestry, rice, fishery and horticulture sectors. The following workshops will be for livestock and agricultural sectors.
