CURRENT AND FUTURE CLIMATE VARIABILITY IMPORTANT TO URUGUAYAN PRODUCTIVE SECTORS

OBJECTIVE

The aim of the network is to analyze the current and future scenarios of climate variability important to different agricultural sectors of Uruguay.

ABSTRACT

Central to the work is the development of indicators and early warning signals for understanding and predicting the adverse effects of climate variability in key agricultural sectors. The work area includes the analysis of past climate variability (mainly during the Holocene), current (instrumental records) and future predictions (modelling).

The network focuses on understanding the processes of adaptation and transformation of the agricultural sector in an attempt to reduce their vulnerability to current and future scenarios of climate variability, which are conditioned by major changes in the extension and intensification of the production matrix.

The network is comprised of specialists from different areas of knowledge: atmospheric sciences, anthropology, statistics, limnology, sociology and dynamics of complex systems.
